Christ the King School Garden: Growing Faith, Learning, and Community

Christ the King School Garden

The Christ the King School Garden is a vibrant outdoor learning space where students connect with nature, faith, culture, and healthy living. Designed as an outdoor classroom, the garden features fruit trees, a pollinator garden, an herb garden, an Indigenous Medicine Garden, a Three Sisters Garden, and a variety of raised garden beds dedicated to growing fruits and vegetables throughout the season. Indigenous land acknowledgment stones are located in front of the Indigenous Medicine Garden and encourage reflection and respect for the land on which we learn and grow.

Tree trunk seats and tree benches provide gathering spaces where students, staff, and community members can come together to learn, collaborate, and explore. Fruits and vegetables harvested from the garden support our Healthy Schools Food and Nutrition Program, helping students develop an appreciation for fresh, nutritious foods, food security, and sustainable growing practices.

Thanks to a generous grant from Whole Kids, Christ the King has been able to expand and enhance the garden with new plantings, educational features, and a composting system that teaches environmental stewardship. Kindergarten students have contributed beautifully decorated bird feeders, while each class has left a lasting legacy by signing a commemorative brick that helps enhance the garden beds and celebrate our collective commitment to the space.

The garden is a true community effort, bringing together school groups like, Student Government, ECO Team members, Student Nutrition, Luke 4:18 and families in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Rooted in our faith we strive to nurture compassion, stewardship, and service while creating opportunities for students to grow academically, socially, spiritually, and environmentally.

Together, we are cultivating a space where learning flourishes, community thrives, and every student can experience the joy of growing something meaningful.
