Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
As we look ahead to the upcoming school year and future school trips and activities, we would like to share an important update regarding our volunteer process. To help ensure that our school community remains as safe as possible, there has recently been a change to Ministry and Board policies regarding school volunteers. These updated requirements are designed to further strengthen safety measures across YCDSB schools and ensure that appropriate screening procedures are in place for all volunteers. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes and continue working together to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students.
Under the requirements of the Supporting Children and Students Act, 2025, amendments have been made to the Board Policy 608: Volunteers in Schools to strengthen police record check requirements for all volunteers at YCDSB. Moving forward, all volunteers will require a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) through the police department. This updated requirement applies to all future volunteer activities, including hot lunch, support in classrooms and attending field trips.
Here is what you need to know if you would like to volunteer with us moving forward:
Where to Apply: You must apply through the police service that serves your home address. For example, if you live in York Region, you will apply for a VSC through the York Regional Police.
School Letter: If you are interested in volunteering, please use the following letter when completing the process

VSC Volunteer Letter of Interest (bring to the station or upload when applying for the VSC)
Required Forms: In addition to the VSC, volunteers are also asked to sign and return the attached Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement and Volunteer Offence Declaration forms.

If you are interested in volunteering at the school or at a school event before the end of this school year, please apply for your VSC, complete both the attached confidentiality and declaration forms, and return them to the main office.
